Dreaming Out Loud!
When textile artist Kay Wong and her set designer/performer/musician brother Jing decided to combine their talents, they created Daydream Nation - a Hong Kong fashion label, with international reach, that is about a whole lot more than clothes.
Daydream Nation is an award-winning Fashion Arts House (Italian Vogue Talent 2010), “a way of life, a vow to dream and dare act upon it”, as Jing puts it. "No longer are we doing fashion for fashion’s sake. Part of the mission of Daydream Nation is to challenge rules that shouldn’t be there. Being born in the rigid Hong Kong education system that stifles creativity, we found it our mission to cultivate a culture of imagination”.
Capturing hearts with its inspired designs and whimsical spirit, Daydream Nation has caught the eye of Chanel, who selected pieces from the Autumn/Winter 2009 collection to inspire Karl Lagerfeld’s work. It also collaborates with international brands including Peter Jensen, The Old Curiosity Shop, and is often spotted on celebrities such as Ke$ha, Juliette Binoche, Sammi Cheng and Gigi Leung.
In addition to being an internationally stocked fashion label of premium quality, Daydream Nation is celebrated for its cross-disciplinary collaborations with other art forms. In October 2010, the first DDN flagship store openned in Hong Kong, with a retail space on the ground floor and a creative studio above which features the work of local artists and indie bands, and runs a program of creative workshops, events and happenings opened to the public.
